This tax holiday is different from last year.
From May 28, 2022 through June 10, 2022 there will be a sales and use tax exemption in Florida on disaster preparedness and eligible pet evacuation supplies listed below. Although other types of items may be considered useful in the event of a disaster, only items specifically identified by the law authorizing the sales tax holiday are eligible for the exemption. Any of the listed items selling for more than the stated dollar thresholds are taxable on the entire amount of the item(s).
Disaster Preparedness Supplies
Qualifying items selling for $20.00 or less:
- Artificial ice, blue ice, ice packs and reusable ice
Qualifying items selling for $40.00 or less:
- Any portable self-powered light source (powered by battery, solar, hand-crank, or gas) including flashlights, lanterns, and candles
Qualifying items selling for $50.00 or less:
- Any gas or diesel fuel container, including LP gas and kerosene containers
Qualifying items selling for $50.00 or less:
- Batteries, including rechargeable batteries, listed sizes only (excluding automobile and boat batteries): AAA-cell, AA-cell, C-cell, D-cell, 6-volt and 9-volt
- Non electric food storage coolers and ice chests
Qualifying items selling for $60.00 or less:
- Tarpaulins, plastic sheeting, plastic drop cloths, and other flexible waterproof sheeting
- Ground anchor systems or tie down kits, bungee cords, ratchet straps
- Portable self-powered radios, two-way radios, weather band radios (including self-powered or battery powered radios with electrical power capability)
Qualifying items selling for $70.00 or less (New for 2022):
- Carbon monoxide detectors
- Fire extinguishers
- Smoke detectors or smoke alarms
Qualifying items selling for $1,000.00 or less:
- Portable generators that will be used to provide light or communications, or to preserve food in the event of a power outage.
Eligible Pet Evacuation Supplies (New for 2022)
Selling for $2 or less per can or pouch (or the equivalent if sold in a box or case):
- Wet pet food
Selling for $15.00 or less per item or package:
- Cat litter pans
- Collapsible or travel-sized food or water bowls
- Hamster or rabbit substrate
- Manual can openers
- Pet waste disposal bags
Selling for $20.00 or less per item or package:
- Collars
- Leashes
- Muzzles
Selling for $20.00 or less per box or package:
- Pet pads
Selling for $25.00 or less per item:
- Cat litter weighing 25lbs or less
Selling for $30 or less per item:
- Bags of dry pet food weighing 15lbs. or less
Selling for $40 or less per item:
- Pet beds
Selling for $100 or less per item:
- Pet carriers
- Portable kennels
